The administration has begun its planning, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to announce the upcoming budget. Under Ayushman Bharat, 10.74 crore families have been provided free and cashless treatment up to Rs 5 lakh annually.
Consider a variety of options
According to highly placed sources in the central government, the brainstorming on the process of including the middle class in Ayushman Bharat had started a few months back. Various options are being considered to bring the middle class under its ambit.
Who can get the benefit?
The middle class will also have Ayushman, will get cashless treatment facility, the doors of the scheme can be opened for the employees of private companies, it can have a base like annual income from organized and unorganized sector workers.
But those working in private companies and institutions may get priority to include the middle class. For this, the government can open the option to private companies to directly link their employees to the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
Employees will get security
This will allow these private companies to provide health protection to their employees at a much lower premium. Many companies charge their employees a premium for providing group health insurance. In such a situation, the employees can also be given the option to join the Ayushman Bharat scheme directly.
Central paramilitary forces added
It is to be noted that recently, on the initiative of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the central paramilitary forces have been linked to the Ayushman Bharat scheme, and all the soldiers working there are being given Ayushman cards. It is being told as the first step towards connecting the middle class with Ayushman Bharat.
10.74 crore families were placed
In the budget of 2018, when the then Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced the Ayushman Bharat scheme, 10.74 crore families already identified were kept in it. These families were selected based on the socio-economic census conducted in 2011. That is, there was no scope to remove or add anyone to it. Perhaps this is the reason that so far less than one-third of the beneficiaries under this scheme have got the Ayushman card.
A large section can benefit
Under this, all 55 crores poor were to be given Ayushman cards. But even after three and a half years of implementation of the scheme, only 17.35 crore Ayushman cards have been made. After the enormous burden on the health infrastructure due to Corona, the government is now preparing to launch a campaign to find beneficiaries and issue Ayushman cards to them on a large scale.
